Beach House – “Zebra (UK Edit)”
LCD Soundsystem – “I Can Change”
Kristmas – “Kristmas International”
Weekends – “Raingirls (Short)”
The National – “Afraid of Everyone”
Best described as a transitional album, Beach House’s 2008 effort, Devotion, makes good on the promise displayed in 2006′s Beach House, namely by way of the dreamy compositions and Victoria Legrand’s compelling voice, but most of all in cleaning up the rough edges that made their debut an interesting, if unpolished product. Hindsight is what it is, but the critical affection for Devotion now seems premature considering many of the qualities espoused are on display to even better effect on the current release, Teen Dream. That is, even tighter songcraft which instills palpable forward thrust in the album tracks instead of the oft-times meandering nature of Beach House and Devotion tracks, as well as even better production values. Below we’ve got the video for “Heart of Chambers,” directed by Victoria’s brother, Alistair.
Beach House at The Interface Studio
Could AOL stake a comeback with The Interface? Doubtful but their selections so far have been pretty solid, and the production is quality. Beach House is their latest featured artist. Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally perform four tracks off in-house fave/obsession Teen Dream. What’s most impressive so far is not only how strong the band sounds in live settings, but the tendency to apply a few subtle tweaks here and there, they sound just different enough to keep it interesting. Legrand alludes to touring as their livelihood and it shows, their performance works even though their stage presence is the guitarist seated and the singer behind a keyboard. We’ve got “Lover of Mine” for you here but recommend you check out the whole show.
Check back Friday for our look back at Devotion, the band’s 2008 album.
