Arcade Fire + David Bowie – “Wake Up”
Arcade Fire and Bowie team up to blow the doors off a stuffy industry gig. This is the band at their anthemic, emotive best.
Merge Records will release The Suburbs, Arcade Fire’s much-anticipated third album, on August 3rd.
Ra Ra Riot – “Too Dramatic” Stream
The hits keep coming. Ra Ra Riot play The Rev Room in Little Rock on Friday, October 29th. Road trip is all I’m saying. Their new album The Orchard will be released 8/24 via Barsuk.

Black Mountain – “The Hair Song”
Just as the quaalude and cough medicine crowd threaten to put us all to sleep, first-string classic-rock conjurers Black Mountain deliver a jolt to the system in the form of “The Hair Song,” the second track from forthcoming Wilderness Heart. Riffs, Amber Webber’s vibrato, and Stephen McBean’s mere presence all combine for a potent track that feels and sounds like rock and or roll.

Damon Gough isn’t necessarily hip or thrill-inducing these days, but releasing 2.5 classic albums over the years earns the dude a post pass from me. Best Coast – Crazy For You
Easily one of our most anticipated records of the year, after several listens Crazy For You lives up to the hype. Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno make it sound so easy on their debut LP, blending 60′s girl-group harmonies with 90′s alt-rock riffs. Cosentino’s simple lyrics, which occasionally border on silly, offer an earnest yet self-assured perspective on yearning and heartache.

Menomena – Mines
The exact opposite of the Best Coast record. A challenging but ultimately rewarding listen, Mines finds the Portland experimental-rockers at their most ambitious. The record is littered with inventive production and masterful musicianship, particularly on the sprawling, Weekend Mixed “TAOS” and the slow burning “Tithe.”

Futurebirds – Hampton’s Lullaby
This is what alt-country in 2010 should sound like, an eclectic mix of pedal steel, indie pop melodies, and four-part harmonies.

Seu Jorge and Almaz – S/T
No Bowie covers, but this time around we get the Brazilian singer/actor’s take on classics from Michael Jackson and Kraftwerk, among others. This is Jorge’s first album with his newly formed band, Almaz.
