Philip Selway – “By Some Miracle”
The prospect of the forthcoming (later this year–maybe) Radiohead album sure is tantalizing. Until then we’ll have to get by on Phil(ip) Selway’s first solo album, Familial, due August 30th. “By Some Miracle,” which is the first track off the album, evokes Radiohead’s moodier, haunting efforts without Thom Yorke’s on-the-verge delirium and the group’s more complex arrangements.
When the members of a band as vaunted as Radiohead step out from their day-job and dabble in side projects the results are always fascinating (look no further than Johnny Greenwood’s iconic There Will Be Blood score for another example from Radiohead), if for no other reason than to see how said solo efforts inform the group’s output. Looking forward to more from Familial.
The new Tokyo Police Club record, Champ, has been getting plenty of spins around here, and last night the guys hit Letterman with one of our favorites.

Starting July 7th Pitchfork will gather-up 20 bloggers for a collective focused on DIY pop. Is this cool or is Pitchfork over-extending? Altered Zones is the spot to check in about a week.
Gorilla Vs. Bear is one of the twenty selected for Altered Zones and they’ve moved to a new home, adjust bookmarks accordingly.
I’m not typing out the inane title but you can stream all of Big Boi’s new album on his Myspace page.
How about some new M83?! Check out the extended version of “Black Hole.”
Adult Swim’s Singles Program is ulimately in the service of KIA sales which is okay if we keep getting cool tracks and a video like the one below for a remix of LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls.” Update: As much as we dislike sending you elsewhere the embed just isn’t working for us. Check out the clip at Stereogum.
The video for Julian Lynch’s “In New Jersey” works just fine and you can enjoy that below.

First I’ve heard Bethany live and she sounds pretty good. Count this another uptick in our Best Coast love.

The Dead Weather – “Blue Blood Blues”
We’re fans of Jack White/Third Man/The White Stripes around here and so we were stoked when The Dead Weather upped their game on their second album, Sea of Cowards, after an underwhelming debut. The clip for “Blue Blood Blues” is an impressive-sounding live cut of the track coupled with performance footage roughed up by post-production effects.

Of all the music released in the last year I would have pegged tracks from Monsters of Folk pretty low as probable remix targets, and yet, here we are with the second run at “Dear God,” this one from Busdriver.
